What transmission can fit/work with a 92 Corrado SLC?

I know some Passats and Golf parts are interchangeable with the Corrado, is a 5 speed manual transmission one of them? Previous owner didn't know how to drive stick so he/she beat the hell out of the 2nd gear synchro.
